ALBAWABA - According to the regional government in Southern Spain, A freight truck struck a police checkpoint in southern Spain early Tuesday, killing six people, two of whom were officers.
The ramming, which occurred at 4:30 a.m. (0330 GMT) on a highway near the town of Los Palacios in the province of Seville, also injured three other persons, according to the Andalusia government.
Prime Minster Pedro Sanchez wrote on X: "I would like to send all my love and solidarity to the families of the people who died, two of them police officers, in a road check,".
According to Spanish media, the officers who were run over by the vehicle were conducting routine checks for drug trafficking. The truck driver was captured and tested negative for drugs and alcohol, according to reports.
Francisco Toscano, a spokesperson of the central government in the province of Seville, told news radio Cadena Ser that the vehicle appeared to be "distracted" and accidentally hit the police checkpoint.
The ramming comes after two Civil Guards were killed in February when they were hit by a drug trafficker's boat during a chase in Barbate harbor, near the key southern port of Cadiz in Andalusia.
