The Secretary General of the Palestinian Authority Presidency, Tayyeb Abdul Rahim, announced Saturday the election of Mahmoud Abbas as the chairman of Fatah's Central Committee. Abbas, according to WAFA, confirmed in a speech that, “the conference will pay off despite Hamas.” He added, “there are issues to address. We must give space to filling gaps,” clarifying that they met for long days to look into every obstacle.
The president added that four of the central committee’s members will be nominated, later on, in addition to 18 members who will be elected.
Meanwhile, Fatah decided to delay the leadership elections until Sunday due to sharp disagreements between the old guard and the younger generation of the movement.
