ALBAWABA - At least 17 were killed, 370 were injured as fighting continues in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo's besieged city of Goma, AFP reported citing hospital sources on Monday.

Clashes began between the Congolese military and M23 forces, backed by the Rwandan forces, who are attempting to advance in Goma city in DR Congo. Gunfire and Artillery fire were heavily heard in the city as fighting continued.

Kenyan President William Ruto revealed that Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame are expected to hold talks over the ongoing crisis in Goma city on Wednesday.

On Monday, Rwanda's state media revealed that United Nations staff were moved by special buses out of Goma city to Rwanda. "This Monday morning UN staff and their families who worked in DRC are being taken out of Goma, with buses at the border on standby to ferry them to Kigali, where they will board flights to their respective countries," the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency said on X.

On Jan. 26, M23 forces backed by the Rwandan army started to advance into Goma city in the Central African country as clashes were heard with the DR Congo army who are attempting to repel their movement and push them back.

It is worth mentioning that the armed group M23 (the March 23 Movement) first emerged in late 2021 and started to control large swathes of North Kivu province in DR Congo.
