H.E Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), honoured the winning teams of the 5th World Robot Olympiad UAE hosted recently by ADEC at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The closing ceremony was also attended by H.E. Ali Mehad Al Suwaidi, Acting Director of the UAE Ministry of Education; Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC Executive Director of School Operations, along with other senior ADEC officials; Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, Director General of the Institutes of Applied Technology, school principals, teachers, students and parents.

Dr. Al Khaili said: “The success of these competitions and the advanced level of ICT skills demonstrated by our students reflect ADEC’s efforts at promoting the use and production of robotics technology in Abu Dhabi”. He added that part of ADEC’s support for students involves providing them with several learning opportunities in areas such as robotics technology, designing and programming. “This event will help in developing UAE teams who can compete with their peers from other countries and contribute to making Abu Dhabi a regional and global Robotics and ICT hub.”

Dr. Al Khaili pointed out that Abu Dhabi will host the 2011 World Robot Olympiad next April as a result of ADEC’s efforts. “We are doing our best to make this international event a great success that will promote Abu Dhabi as a hub for robotics technology. We believe that our students will help shape the future of this field; thus, I call upon all school students to learn more about robotics design and programming so that they can actively participate in such remarkable events. This will also help them improve their skills in Math, Science and ICT and ultimately lead to the development of a technologically competent, innovative, creative, problem-solving, collaborative and highly-professional workforce,” Dr. Al Khaili added.
