Afghan opposition forces on Sunday shot down a MiG-21 jet of the ruling Taliban militia during an air raid in northern Takhar province, an opposition spokesman said.
Mohammad Habeel said the aircraft was shot down around 05:30 p.m. (1300 GMT) during a bombing run over Takhar's provincial centre of Taloqan.
He said the fuselage had been located in the opposition-controlled area of Choonzaie, near Taloqan, the political-military base of opposition military commander Ahmad Shah Masood.
"It was targeted by our anti-air guns, caught fire and then crashed while making the second circle over Taloqan," Habeel said, declining to describe the anti-aircraft guns.
"We have sent the boys to grab the pilot who is believed to be alive," he said – KABUL (AFP)
