Number-one seeded Andre Agassi got crushed when the American double-faulted on a match point, thus handing the victory over to Slovakia's 15th-seeded Dominik Hrbaty in the third round of the Italian Open Thursday.
"If a match goes like this a couple of weeks from now, it's a big problem," said Agassi through the Associated Press, referring to defending his French Open title in May 29.
During his match with Agassi, 22-year-old Hrbaty was receiving updates from his coach on the win of Slovakia over the US in the World Hockey Championship and said his homeland triumph helped his game, defeating Agassi (6-4, 6-4).
In other third round matches, Australia's ninth-seeded 19-year-old Lleyton Hewitt crushed Sweden's seventh-seeded Thomas Enqvist (7-6, 2-6, 6-3).
No.3 seeded Magnus Norman also moved into the quarterfinals after defeating Andrei Medvedev (7-6, 6-1), while Brazil's No. 4 Gustavo Kuerten also advanced to the quarterfinals when Morocco's No. 14 Younes El Aynaoui retired after a heel injury a few hours before the match.
Unseeded Mariano Puerta triumphed over Argentina's No. 16 Juan Carlos Ferrero (7-6, 3-6, 6-4) also booking him a place in the quarterfinals - (Several Sources).
