An auction of sports memorabilia held at a celebratory dinner on Wednesday, November 30 by Aggreko plc, global leader in providing temporary power generation and temperature control services raises over AED 80,000 for charitable causes.
The Aggreko rugby auction, which was held during a gala dinner to commemorate the company’s 15th year of operations in the Middle East, saw selected items signed by sporting heroes up for auction. Included among these was an exclusive signed Barbarians print, Lawrence Dallaglio shirt, cricketing legend Michael Vaughan signed ‘Ashes’ framed print, and football hero Wayne Rooney signed photograph.
A legendary line-up of guest speakers provided the entertainment throughout the evening, including former Wales Captain and the current voice of BBC rugby commentary, Eddie Butler, and ex-Scotland Captain and British Lions team member, Gavin Hastings. The Master of Ceremonies, and auctioneer for the evening was Damian Hopley, former England player and CEO of the Professional Rugby Players Association (PRA).
Damian Hopley, auctioneer at the Aggreko dinner, inspired the gathering to make their bests bids for the collection. By the end of the evening the various items of sporting history on auction had successfully generated proceeds of AED 80,000, all of which will be donated to charitable causes in the UAE.
Three UAE-based non-governmental organisations working with children with special needs will receive the funds raised from the sports memorabilia auction; Senses from Dubai, Manzil from Sharjah and the Indian Ladies Association-run Special Care Centre from Abu Dhabi.
“Aiding the development of children with special needs is an issue that Aggreko feels very strongly about, and we are delighted that the auction has provided us with an opportunity to lend assistance to three dedicated and deserving UAE charities working in this field,” said Derek Shepherd, Managing Director Aggreko International.
