Ahmadinejad starts Latin America tour

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad leading a high ranking political delegation arrived on Saturday in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. Upon arrival, the Iranian president and his entourage were welcomed at Caracas international airport by the country's officials.

 

According to IRNA, Ahmadinejad and his Venezuelan peer Hugo Chavez will meet on expansion of mutual relations and will explore avenues to further broaden bilateral cooperation. Ahmadinejad's trip will take him to Venezuela, Nicaragua and Ecuador from January 12.

 

On Sunday, the Iranian president will leave Caracas for Managua in Nicaragua on the second leg of his trip.

 

During his stay in the country, President Ahmadinejad will confer with his Nicaraguan counterpart and the country's high ranking officials on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

 

On Sunday afternoon, the president will arrive in Quito, Ecuador on the last leg of his trip to Latin America to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ecuador's new president which will also be attended by heads of state from around the world.
