Al Ghurair University of Dubai (AGU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Applied Sciences of Nordhausen (UASN), Germany which will be the basis for exploring areas of mutual interest in teaching and research.
The MOU was signed by Professor Lawrence Loh, Vice President for Academic Affairs AGU, and Professor Dr Joerg Wagner, President Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished officials of the German Government and its Consulate in Dubai such as Jürgen Reinholz, State Minister for Economics, of the State of Thuringia and Johann-Adolf Cohausz, German Consul General of Dubai, several faculty members of AGU and other German universities, who are members of a diverse delegation from Thuringia which is currently touring the UAE.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Lawrence Loh said: “While improving programs at AGU we keep in mind quality education which is sustainable to the region and is delivered by highly qualified faculty. Our aim at AGU is to attract students from various nationalities, and with this agreement in place, our students will get a chance to get even more international exposure than before.
“This initiative is part of our efforts to diversify and broaden the university’s education portfolio. We feel encouraged by the German State Minister for Economics and the German Consulate to support associations with German institutions to promote quality education in the country.”
According to Professor Lawrence the MoU will benefit both the institutions due to an envisioned exchange program between students and faculty of UASN and AGU. Both the institutions will also expand activities of mutual interest such as holding international conferences and developing collaborative research and consultancy.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Joerg Wagner stressed: “The curriculum of UASN is designed to impart practical qualifications and competencies in addition to classic theory to students. The international orientation is reflected in the various programs that have been introduced. Thus we offer a well rounded international educational experience encompassing local perspectives in learning, research and application, and we are glad to find in AGU an institution with a matching portfolio.”

This initiative was initiated by the President Professor Wagner, and Professor Hafid Al Hafid, AGU, and was signed as both the institutions recognised the benefits of increased cooperation and communication within the international community of universities. It will open areas for collaboration to share their academic expertise and generate great value for students.
