UAE National and Industry Veteran Is Fourth Title Winner
Leading regional oilfield services provider, Al Mansoori Specialised Engineering’s Managing Director, Nabil Alalawi, is the first Arab to be voted Middle East Oil Baron.
UAE national and industry veteran, Abu Dhabi-based Alalawi, becomes the fourth title holder following an industry poll organised by Pipeline Magazine - the region's premier publication for the oil and gas industry.
In a glittering ceremony at Dubai’s Nad Al Sheba Golf and Racing Club, Alalawi was crowned Middle East Oil Baron 2006 at the Oil Barons’ Ball – the main social event for the region’s energy industry - in front of a high profile audience of about 2000 industry decision makers.
“Nabil is among one of the key regional oil industry influencers and is well-known for his visionary leadership and strong management skills,” said Eileen Michael, Publisher, Reflex Publishing ME, the name behind Pipeline magazine.
“He is extremely passionate about health, safety and environment issues related to the oil industry and this win is an emphatic recognition of his efforts to improve overall regional standards.”
Alalawi, who succeeds 2005 Middle East Oil Baron Frank Rooney, qualified as a petroleum engineer from the USA’s Lousiana State University, Baton Rouge in 1965 and has been involved in the UAE’s oil sector for nearly four decades. He said that winning the title is all the better coming from industry counterparts.
“It is truly satisfying since the votes are from peers and colleagues,” he said. “It is gratifying to know that my efforts have been noticed by fellow industry people.
“The Oil Barons’ Ball is growing in prestige and importance every year as one of the main highlights for the regional industry’s social calendar, where mainstream energy personnel can get together in a grand setting. It is a great honour to receive this accolade in the presence of so many well-known industry names.”
The Oil Barons’ Ball is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and Chairman of the Emirates Group.
