Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has been named the 2006 Next Generation Network (NGN) Infrastructure Vendor of the Year in Asia-Pacific by global growth consulting company Frost & Sullivan for the second time. The award, which recognizes Alcatel’s accomplishments in the area of NGN in 2005, was presented at the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards banquet, held on June 16 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. Alcatel also received this award in 2004.

The Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards are held annually to recognize companies and individuals that have pushed the boundaries of excellence — rising above the competition and demonstrating outstanding performance across the region.

Sin Siew Teyew, head of telecoms research at Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific, said, “Alcatel's thought leadership and ability in offering a common open service delivery environment, coupled with its service innovation capabilities have enabled Alcatel to become a preferred partner for service providers which plan to embark on next-generation network transformations.”

“This award is testimony to the leadership position that Alcatel is taking in the NGN market,” said Frédéric Rose, Alcatel’s President for Asia-Pacific. “Alcatel will continue to leverage this leadership to help our customers introduce service innovation into their networks while cost-effectively migrating their installed voice base.”

Alcatel’s NGN products and solutions help fixed and mobile service providers control costs by allowing for a staged migration from today’s circuit-based PSTN to a full packet-based network. In addition, service providers can reduce customer churn and generate additional revenues from new services made possible by IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) technology.

Alcatel’s extensive IMS-compliant NGN portfolio provides end-to-end quality of service (QoS) and security functionality that enable service providers to bring innovative, quality services to their customers. Leveraging the power of IMS, the Alcatel solution allows service providers to quickly develop, test, and launch innovative new user-centric applications — independent of the access technology.

In 2005, Alcatel showed sustained momentum in NGN with more than 90 IMS-ready commercial deployments and trials. Alcatel’s industry-leading NGN product and solutions have been carrying live traffic in numerous leading fixed and mobile operator networks across all continents, including some of the world’s leading service providers, like Celcom, China Netcom, China Mobile, Telecom New Zealand, Telstra, BT, Telia Sonera, T-Mobile USA, True Move (TAO), Slovak Telecom and Vimpelcom.

All nominees were evaluated on a variety of actual market performance indicators for financial year 2005, including revenue growth, market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, breadth of products and solutions, major customer acquisitions, and business and market strategy. A team of Frost & Sullivan’s leading analysts and consultants based across the region were involved in the short listing, evaluation and research process. The findings of the detailed examination were then presented to a panel of independent judges comprising influential personalities in the Asia Pacific ICT industry.
