Algeria has been badly affected by civil war, terrorism and high crime rates over the past decade. However, a report from the Algerian police in the news source, Liberte Algerie, argues that the capital Algiers is in fact a secure city and has overcome the worst of the difficult security situation.

The police force says that has confirmed there will be 180 000 policemen in the street in 2005 and an additional 160 security cameras are to be installed in 2005.

Police admit that there is still an active terrorist threat, especially from rebels in the south of the country and crime gangs often descend from the rural areas, but the extra forces and camera will help deal with this threat.
