All Saint Shaznay Lewis’ rise to pop glory began in less than happy circumstances; as a 13-year-old upset by her parents' split.
As a troubled teenager, she wrote poetry and lyrics to ease the
pain, but she did not know that this would lead to a multi-million
pound career.
She says, "I worked through a lot of things by making my problems
or worries part of a song. It was definitely a form of therapy."
All Saints' hit track Never Ever was penned by Shaznay after a failed relationship plunged her into the depths of depression. But newfound love with dancer boyfriend Christian has now changed the sultry singer's outlook - as well as her lyrics.
She adds, "the songs on the new album are different, too, because
I wrote them when I was happy. I can't be melancholy unless I
really feel it."
Meanwhile, the songstress said that she still works for a “rainy day.”
lewis’s mum won't give up her job, in case her pop star daughter hits hard times and needs the money.
The stunning singer, whose new single Black Coffee went into the British charts at No.1 on October 8, 2000, has an estimated fortune of $11.25 million, but her mother Delores is still
worried about her daughter's future.
Shaznay, who is 25 on 14 October, says, "my mum won't hear of me
giving up work now, she doesn't believe me when I say I've enough
money to keep the both of us.
"She still talks about working to provide for a rainy day. She
reads all this stuff about All Saints splitting up and worries. She
tells me, 'things are shaky. I can't give up my job just yet. what
if you need me?'
"I tell her things are fine but I don't think she'll ever listen.
She just my mum - taking care of me."
Furthermore, the star has also declared that she is not planning on a one-woman career any time soon, despite speculation that the singer/writer is set to launch solo.
Stunning Shaznay admits she's terrified at the prospect of
singing without the backup of fellow band members Mel Blatt, Nicole and Natalie Appleton.
She says, "I don't have a picture in my head of me standing on my
own on the stage. When I think of performing the girls are always
there with me. I like having the others around me to take the
attention off me” – Wenn.
