Arab Foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday in Cairo to discuss the Palestinian situation and developments in the occupied territories. Meanwhile, the Arab League secretary general Amr Mousa confirmed to Albawaba.com his resentment with the latest American veto at the UN security Council. Palestinian ambassador to the Arab League Mohammed Sbaih also told Albawaba.com that the current situation in the Palestinian lands has taken a dangerous turn after the destructive war which Israel has launched against the Palestinian people.

“The only hope for Palestinians is that the Arab Foreign Ministers take crucial decisions particularly in view of the latest American veto at the UN Security Council against the resolution proposed by the Arab group at the UN to condemn the Israeli actions and provocation and going back to the arrangements before the eruption of the Palestinian uprising,” said Sbaih after meeting with the Arab League Secretary General.

“The Palestinian delegation will present to the meeting a comprehensive file on the latest serious circumstances in the occupied territories including the Israeli terrorism and their destruction of Palestinian economy, infrastructure, dwellings and factories in addition to the Israeli random killing and land bulldozing. This is also in addition to all the Israeli plans to dismiss the Palestinians from their homeland,” Sbaih added.

He said that discussions would focus on a unified Arab stance towards Europe and the United States particularly in view of the misunderstanding and the Israeli delusion noting that there was an extensive Arab anger over the American veto.

On the other hand, an Arab official, requested anonymity, said that Arabs have divided into two camps: a moderate camp which calls for supporting Arafat and a second camp which claims that Arafat latest address to the nation is considered as surrender on his part to Israel.

For his part, the Arab League Secretary General Amr Mousa told Albawaba.com "The consultations that are underway between Arab countries about this meeting do not mean there are disputes over its importance." He expressed his hope that Arafat’s speech will provide the appropiate opportunity to resume the political dialoge between the Palestinians and Israel. However, Mousa assessed Sharon government does not wish to do so. The Secretary General added that the upcoming meeting would confirm the Arab confidence in Arafat. “All the Arabs support him,” Mousa concluded.
