Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's resignation is a result of the Palestinian uprising, Iraqi, Syrian and Gulf newspapers said Monday.

"The only language Israel understands is force," Abu Dhabi-based Al-Ittihad said. "Barak's resignation is a consequence of the Intifada, proving that force is the only solution," Emirati daily Al-Bayan added.

"The Jewish criminal Barak is not the first victim of the Palestinian uprising in the Zionist entity and his fall will not be the only result of the Intifada," the Iraqi state-owned daily Al-Jumhuriya said Monday.

Barak's resignation was widely perceived in the Arab world as a proof of the Intifada's efficiency. Arab countries "should focus their energy on intensifying the Intifada (...), the weapon that caused the collapse of the government and divided the enemy's public opinion," Qatari daily Al-Watan said.

Saudi daily Al-Nadwa was sceptical about Barak's return as Prime Minister. "Barak will lose the next elections because he proved he wasn't committed to pursuing peace and that he is as evasive as his predecessor, (Benjamin) Netanyahu," Al-Nadwa said.

"For the Arab people, it makes no difference if the next government is led by Likud or Labor," Syria's Al-Baath said Monday.

"What is important is the establishment of a fair peace" in the Middle East, the state-owned daily said -- NICOSIA (AFP)
