Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received Sunday a phone call from Yasser Arafat.
During the phone conversation, Arafat thanked Syria for supporting the Palestinian cause at the Security Council and for opposing the Israeli repeated attempts to exile Arafat.
For his part, al-Shara stressed Syria’s support to the Palestinian cause and Syria’s care for boosting the national unity of the Palestinian people, SANA reported.
Arafat and the Syrian leadership have maintained cold relations after the Palestinian leader signed an interim peace deal with Israel in 1993 - a deal strongly opposed by Damascus. (Albawaba.com)
