ARAMEX International, the leading total transportation solutions provider in the Middle East and the Asian Subcontinent, today revealed that its humanitarian aid expertise will be increasingly deployed around the region as Dubai progressively becomes a hub for disaster relief.
The logistics specialist, which has sent relief teams to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and further afield in the wake of natural disasters such as earthquakes and a devastating Tsunami, today confirmed that it has taken on a key role in the emirate’s principal humanitarian aid event.
The Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development (DIHAD) 2006 conference and exhibition, supported by HH Sheikh Mohammed, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, will see ARAMEX join some of the principal relief agencies in the world in collaborating on future planning and organization.
Hussein Hachem, Vice-President of ARAMEX in the UAE, said: “It is entirely appropriate that this event, in which we are participating for the third time, should be held in Dubai as it is increasingly growing to be the focus for large scale relief efforts.
As part of the Dubai Airport Emergency Team, ARAMEX recognizes its responsibility and is committed to play a major role in offering this critical service based on the availability of suppliers, materials and routes to help those struck by natural disasters. For that purpose, we have created a specialist disaster relief team who manages the process throughout the company to collect, wrap and ship the packages that are so crucial to any recovery effort.
In addition to that, the DIHAD 2006 presents an excellent opportunity to strengthen the ties amongst the parties involved and enable them to coordinate better and faster when needed.”
ARAMEX’s logistics expertise has been deployed to provide customised transport to the region’s relief agencies and to send team members through Dubai Airport Emergency Team to provide on the ground support to partner agencies to relieve suffering. It shipped four aircraft load of emergency supplies to victims of the Pam earthquake in Iran and has been involved in alleviating the suffering of victims throughout the region.
