An armed man was taken into custody by United States Capitol Police officers in a park located across the street from Union Station in Washington, D.C.
Officials have not released the identity of the apprehended individual, nor have they disclosed the specific type of firearm he was carrying. According to a witness on social media, the man was carrying an AR-15.
Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety, but investigations into the incident are still underway.
In response to the situation, several roads have been temporarily closed, including Columbus Circle between Louisiana and Delaware Avenues Northeast, as well as D Street between Louisiana and Delaware Avenues Northeast.
Officials are urging individuals near these street closures to steer clear of the area until further notice.
