Australia is ready to invest in Iran's fisheries, animal husbandry as well as in the production of meat and dairy products, Australian Agriculture Minister Waren Trus told Iran's Construction Minister Mohammad Saeedikia in Sydney, according to Iran’s news agency (IRNA).

Trus was quoted by the agency as saying the similar climatic conditions in Iran and Australia provide a suitable ground for cooperation in the protection and revival of pastures, forests and controlling desertification.

“Given its potential in Central Asia, the Middle East and the Persian Gulf littoral states, Iran can be the best trade partner for Australia in the region,” he added.

Saeedikia said that strengthened position of President Mohammad Khatami following the inauguration of the sixth Majlis and Iran's economic development in the Third Five-Year Plan (2000-2005) provide suitable grounds for cooperation between government and Majlis to encourage foreign investment in Iran.

Trus accepted an invitation to visit Tehran extended by the visiting minister, said IRNA --
