Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz said Friday Iraq would take part in an emergency Arab summit called for October 21 to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"Iraq will take part in every Arab meeting because it is a member of the Arab League. If there is an Arab summit Iraq will take part," the official INA news agency quoted Aziz as saying.

Iraq was not invited to the last Arab summit, in 1996, following its invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent Gulf War five years before which opened a deep rift in the Arab world.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak announced earlier Friday that Arab leaders would meet on October 21 and 22 in Cairo to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories.

"The so-called peace process is nine years old but has brought nothing to our Arab Palestinian people but repression, terrorism and and massacre," Aziz was quoted as telling a visiting Algerian delegation.
