Bahrain plans to establish a new BD100-million-institution for developing the tourism sector, reported the Gulf Daily news agency.

It quoted finance and national economy minister, Abdulla Saif, as saying that the government would hold a 20 percent stake in the institution, while the remaining shares would be offered to local and foreign investors.

According to figures released by the tourism ministry, about 10,000 tourists visited the Gulf country last year, while in 1999, the number did not exceed 6,000 -- Albawaba.com
