Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday urged the cabinet to take a decision regarding Syria's alleged involvement in smuggling weapons to Hizbullah in Lebanon. Barak told Israel Radio: "I repeat, Syria is turning over lots of weapons to Hizbullah. Israel should take decisions if some of these weapon shipments pose a threat to the fragile balance of powers."
Barak did not disclose further details regarding nature of the Syrian arm shipments to Hizbullah.
Meanwhile, Hizbullah on Sunday said U.S. President George Bush's administration and its "followers" in the region have been "horrified" by results of the U.S. "aggression" on Syria. According to Naharnet, Hizbullah's official in south Lebanon Sheik Nabil Qaouq made the claim in an address at a Hizbullah-sponsored rally in the southern port city of Tyre.
Qaouq said escalating reconnaissance missions by Israeli jetfighters over Lebanon are an attempt to "compensate for the repeated failures of the U.S.-Israeli agenda in the region." He said the U.S. raid has "bolstered Syria's status."
