Ramadan: A Time to Give” Campaign continues for the second year with more activities for Orphans in the UAE

Barclays announced today the continuation of “Ramadan: A Time to Give” campaign. Launched last year, the campaign has supported more than 15,000 orphans, low income families, single mothers and special needs students in the UAE during the Holy month of Ramadan. Building on last year’s success, Barclays decided to dedicate more efforts this year during the spiritual month to orphans across the UAE by enriching their lives through social integration & inclusion.

Barclays sponsored two Iftar events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Red Crescent and Dar Zayed Institute to share the spirit of this holy month with these children. The two Iftars provided an opportunity for 180 orphans to interact and socialize with employees from Barclays.

“As part of our Community Investment program, Barclays expands its scope of activities for orphans every year through partnering with renowned organizations to be able to reach as many children as we can in the UAE.  We believe that by engaging with these children we can contribute towards their growth and development and impact society positively, as youth are the future of any society. Helping these children especially at the Holy month of Ramadan reflects our ongoing commitment towards youth and respect for religious norms and local culture’’, said Michael Miebach, Managing Director for Barclays Middle East and North Africa, Global Retail and Commercial Banking.

“We are proud to be a part of these children’s lives at this Holy time of Ramadan, a time for sharing and giving. These are behaviors that we encourage at Barclays. Investing in the youth is an important part of our corporate sustainability agenda. Through actions like these, we demonstrate our commitment to the communities in which we do business”, said Vinit Chandra, CEO, Global Retail and Commercial Banking, Emerging Markets.

The AED 16,000 raised is being used to provide educational materials for the orphans. In partnership with the Red Crescent, 300 ‘Boxes of Goodness’ containing essential food supplies where distributed among low income families across the UAE.
