British Airways is to provide business passengers with "offices in the sky" by offering Internet access on board its aircraft, the company said on Saturday.
The airline said it will test the system on one of its aircraft later this year, and expects to introduce the service across its long-haul fleet by 2002, according to a spokeswoman.
BA is hoping the service will have particular appeal to business passengers. They will be able to plug their laptop computers into telephone sockets set into the back of the seat in front of them.
Air Canada is carrying out a six-month trial of in-flight Internet access on some of its North American routes, but BA said it will be the first airline to allow passengers all over the world to surf the Internet.
BA, which posted 50 million pound (86 million Euros, 72 million dollars) losses for the first quarter of this year, is anxious to attract more business passengers, who pay premium prices for tickets - LONDON (AFP)
