British foreign office minister, Peter Hain, will start Saturday a two-day visit to Syria and Lebanon to discuss the moribund peace process in the Middle East and Israeli unilateral withdrawal from Lebanon, Kuwait News Agency quoted Friday a British foreign ministry official as saying.
Upon his departure from London, Hain welcomed the opportunity to visit Syria and Lebanon at such a crucial moment in the peace process, the agency said.
He was quoted as saying that "in such a complex process, which is trying to overcome the distrust of decades, setbacks are inevitable."
But the minister said that he remained convinced that a peace settlement is within reach.
The agency added that Hain would meet Sunday Syrian foreign minister Farouq Shara and Prime Minister Mustafa Miro.
The British official, during his visit to Lebanon, is scheduled to hold talks with Lebanese President Emil Lahoud and Prime Minister Salim Hoss.
He will also meet with Syrian and Lebanese businessmen, senior officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations during his trip - Albawaba.com
