ALBAWABA - UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) says that on Sunday, an attack happened on a British commercial ship in the Red Sea, off the coast of Yemen. During the attack, armed attackers used guns and rocket-propelled grenades.
There was no instant claim of credit for the attack. It happened at a time when emotions were high in the Middle East because of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, the recent war between Israel and Iran, and U.S. attacks against Iranian nuclear sites.
According to the UKMTO, which is part of the British military, an armed security team on board the ship fired back. The agency said, "The situation is still going on," and added that officials are looking into it.
At the same time, Ambrey, a private marine security company, sent out a warning saying that eight small boats attacked a merchant ship that was traveling north in the Red Sea. The ship's cargo was damaged when two robotic marine units hit the port (left) side of it, according to Ambrey.
The business also said that the attack seems to be still going on.
The U.S. Fifth Fleet, which is based in the Middle East, told the media to contact U.S. Central Command, but the command has not yet replied.
During the Israel-Hamas war, Houthi fighters in Yemen have attacked in the Red Sea in the past, but the calm in Gaza has mostly held for the past few weeks.
