The British University in Dubai today announced the appointment of Dr. Eugenie Samier, Head of Programme for the first-ever Ed.D programme.
For BUiD’s September 2009 intake, 16 educational professionals became the inaugural class undertaking the country’s first doctorate in education (Ed.D) provided by The British University in Dubai (BUiD), the Middle East’s leading research-based postgraduate university.
Launched earlier this year, BUiD’s Ed.D has received an overwhelming response from the growing number of educational professionals of all nationalities residing in the UAE.
“Following our successful launch of the Ed.D programme, we are looking forward to having Dr. Samier, an international expert in educational studies, build our programme and expand the educational sector in the region,” said Dr. Mick Randall, Dean, Faculty of Education, BUiD.
Dr. Samier brings to BUiD more than 20 years of education studies and experience from a number of global institutions. Prior to her move to BUiD, Dr. Samier was Associate Professor for Leadership and Administration Studies under the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University.
Dr. Samier, a frequent guest public lecturer at global universities and government institutions, has also produced a number of peer-reviewed journals and is editor of a number of refereed book collections with major international publishers.
“I look forward to teaching the first Ed.D class in the UAE and contributing to the growth of educational experts in the region,” said Dr. Eugenie Samier, Head of BUiD’s Educational Doctorate programme.
The Middle East is a fast-growing region with a vast need for professionals within the educational sector, and through my experience, I plan to implement a beneficial and sustainable programme that will help meet this demand,” she added.
The Ed.D is offered in partnership with the University of Birmingham, one of the UK's leading universities with an international reputation for the excellence of its research and teaching. Through this partnership, BUiD supports and encourages its graduates to participate in research and publications at an international level.
BUiD is welcoming application for its second intake in September 2010.
