The British University in Dubai (BUiD), the region's top research-based postgraduate university has announced it will offer prospective MSc students a limited number of places on a choice of five taster courses in the next semester.
The places on the taster courses are offered free of charge. The tasters cover; Strategy; Organisational Change; Programme & Portfolio Management; Sustainable Built Environment; and Modelling Methods & Applications. Each taster course comprises six to nine sessions and will take place on one evening per week from 6-10pm between September and November.
"These taster courses are a great opportunity for those who would like a preview of what a BUiD MSc programme involves. Students who attend the sessions will receive a certificate of attendance and there is also the option to pay the required fee for accredited assessment, satisfactory completion of which will enable the direct transfer of credits for the specified MSc programme," said Dr. Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, BUiD.
Each taster is linked on one of BUiD's MSc programmes as follows: Project Management (Strategy and Programme & Portfolio Management taster courses); MSc Systems Engineering (Modelling Methods & Applications); MSc Human Resource Management (Organisational Change); MSc Sustainable Design of the Built Environment (Sustainable Built Environments). Successful completion of the taster course assessment would lead to a provisional offer of a place on the relevant MSc programme for students who meet BUiD's entry requirements.
Students will also have the chance to apply for competitive scholarships to study MSc programmes at BUiD, which will start in September and February each year.
"We know that many young professionals are thinking most seriously about postgraduate qualifications, particularly in the current economic climate. However, faced with the options of full or part-time, accredited or non-accredited qualifications from federally-licensed or other institutions, their decision is difficult. These taster courses will help both Emirati and non-Emirati graduates appreciate the BUiD offer of an MOHESR-accredited masters degree, internationally recognized, and delivered by locally resident and regionally networked faculty, working for this federally-licensed and DIAC-supported university," said Martin Price, Registrar at BUiD.
Applications for the taster courses must be completed online and received by BUiD by Thursday 26 August 2010. Applicants wishing to take the assessment must meet BUiD's entry requirements, details of which are available at www.buid.ac.ae/buid/html/article.asp?cid=20. A fee is payable for the assessment only. All enquirers are also welcome to visit BUiD at Floor 1, Block 11, DIAC, on any weekday during Ramadan to meet administrative advisers between 8am and 3pm, or academic staff by appointment.
