Region’s First Research-Based Postgraduate University Awarded for its Contribution to UAE Society

The British University in Dubai (BUiD) received the “Contribution to the UAE Society” award at the prestigious TECOM Investments Pearl Awards yesterday.

The award recognises BUiD’s involvement in supporting local initiatives for the employment and development of UAE nationals, as well as undertaking projects that benefit the UAE community.
The TECOM Investments Pearl Awards aim to celebrate and recognize the success of TECOM Business Partners and further distinctive achievements within Dubai.
“BUiD is honoured to be recognised as a leading contributor to UAE society and a trusted partner of TECOM,” said Dr. Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, The British University in Dubai.

“We are committed to supporting the aspirations of the Dubai Government and the UAE by becoming a hub for education and research in the region. BUiD continues to provide the region’s future decision makers with the advanced education and developmental skills that will benefit their career progression,” added Alshamsi.

Since its inception in 2003, BUiD has provided over 300 scholarships to its students, which include young professionals, leading academic, corporate managers and aspiring leaders of all description.

Emirati scholars make up approximately 50 percent of BUiD’s intake, making BUiD a key player in the development of young Arab leaders and a key contributor to the UAE’s knowledge economy.

BUiD has gained international recognition for its research projects in Business, Education, Engineering, Informatics, and Human Resource Management. Additionally, BUiD continues to organise public lectures and other activities for its students and the local community, including recent discussions covering ‘Climate Change and Construction’, ‘Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility’, and ‘Artificial Minds, Natural Computation: How Computers Have Changed The Way We Think About Ourselves’. University education is concerned with the Universality of knowledge, benefitting the whole community.

In addition, BUiD places great importance in its research in special needs education, particularly focusing on the development and integration of people with special needs into the local society.

BUiD provides its students with world-class scholarship, education and research as reflected through its partnerships with five leading UK universities including The University of Edinburgh, The University of Birmingham, The University of Manchester, Cardiff University and Cass Business School, City University London.

As such, all BUiD programmes offer cutting edge education and research in key disciplines, and have accreditation eligibility from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education. As one of the region’s most innovative institutions, BUiD sets the standards for scholarship and research that have significantly contributed to the growth of the Arab world and beyond.

Dubai’s aspirations as a knowledge economy rely equally on the enterprise of such organisations as TECOM and BUiD’s vision of a world-class university sector within the region.
