US President George W. Bush told his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad during a phone call Friday that his administration wants to "help" achieve peace in the Middle East, said reports.
Both leaders, said the BBC.online, expressed willingness to work towards a peace agreement in the Middle East.
It was the first direct contact between Bush and Assad.
