Bush, Assad Discuss Middle East

US President George W. Bush told his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad during a phone call Friday that his administration wants to "help" achieve peace in the Middle East, said reports. 

Both leaders, said the BBC.online, expressed willingness to work towards a peace agreement in the Middle East.  

It was the first direct contact between Bush and Assad. 

According to the Syrian agency, President Assad stressed the need to handle the region's problems objectively and impartially -- Albawaba.com
