According to BNA, eight people, including six army personnel, were killed today when suspected militants exploded a car bomb in Srinagar, capital of India's Jammu and Kashmir state.
More than 16 people were injured in the blast, the police said. The car bomb was aimed at an Indian army convoy, Kashmir's top police officer Gopal Sharma said. The suspected suicide car bomb was driven into an army vehicle, he said. The powerful blast destroyed two vehicles. The dead included an army major, five soldiers, a policeman and a civilian. A spokesman for the separatist Hizbul Mujahideen militant group claimed responsibility for the attack in telephone calls to local media offices in Srinagar.
