Castrol has announced its fourth consecutive year as main sponsor of Team Saluki, a key contender in the forthcoming UAE Desert Challenge.  The Dubai based desert rally race team, led by Mark Powell, is expected to capture a podium finish in the team’s Castrol EDGE-sponsored 3.5 litre V6 Honda-engined Buggy, following recent second-place win at Ha’il Saudi Baja, KSA.

The UAE Desert Challenge, one of the world's most prestigious international cross country rallies, will be staged across the diverse landscape of the Emirates. The 2010 race marks the event’s 20th anniversary.

During the Challenge, competitors face two days of documentation before a Super Special Stage, which decides the starting order. Competitors then brave the Liwa Desert and the Moreeb area of the Empty Quarter for five days. With the desert in their backyard, Team Saluki knows the terrain and is well prepared to do battle with the world’s best drivers.

Established in 1994 Team Saluki, named after the breed of dog renowned for  great endurance and stamina, includes a blend of maturity and expertise, consisting of Mark Powell (the driver), Paul Richard (the co-driver), and James Thomas (team manager).

Commenting on the Castrol EDGE sponsorship, Mark Powell said “Castrol plays an important role in keeping the team running and we have a long term relationship with the company. The sponsorship keeps us up-and-running with products that allow us to drive hard and push our buggy to the limits.”

Mohammed Samir, Castrol Marketing Head, Middle East, said:  “We have designed the Castrol EDGE lubricant to perform and protect under extreme conditions and it does not get more demanding than five tough days rallying in the Emirate’s unforgiving desert terrain. We have full faith in the performance of the Team Saluki and our Castrol EDGE lubricants.
