Chinese police have arrested the former top executive of a company that formed part of a business empire run by the outlawed Zhonggong spiritual movement, a Hong Kong-based rights group said Tuesday.
Feng Linxi, the general manager of Jianghaiyang Co., a company based in northern Shaanxi province that has been closed down, was detained by police in southwestern Chengdu city last week, the Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said.
Chinese authorities have cracked down on the Zhonggong since last October, and have closed down about 3,000 enterprises operated by the group, the center said.
Zhongong, along with the better known Falungong, is considered a threat to Communist Party rule.
China banned the Falungong movement in July last year and has jailed core leaders for up to 18 years and sent tens of thousands of members to re-education camps.
Both groups advocate Buddhist and Taoist inspired teachings, clean living and high moral values, while engaging in group meditation and traditional Chinese breathing exercises -- HONG KONG (AFP)
