ALBAWABA - The Gaza Interior Ministry said that on Sunday, there were deadly clashes in Gaza City between security forces and an armed militia that was said to be linked to Israel. Several people were killed and injured.

A high-ranking official from the ministry told Al Jazeera that security forces have surrounded the militia members in the city and are working to catch them. He stressed that the government is determined to restore order and bring those responsible for the killings to justice.

The official said that militia fighters shot at civilians who had been forced to leave their homes in southern Gaza and were on their way back to Gaza City.

Gaza Security Forces Work to Bring Back Order

The Ministry of Interior and National Security said that after the recent ceasefire agreement with Israel, it has put in place a number of security and community measures to restore stability and law enforcement across the Gaza Strip.

The ministry also announced a general amnesty for people who had joined armed gangs during the war but had not killed anyone.

People can turn themselves in to security forces between October 13 and 19, 2025, as part of the amnesty program. This will settle their legal status and end their cases for good.

The ministry said the choice was made because of "national responsibility and a desire to strengthen internal unity and social stability." It said that some criminal groups took advantage of the chaos of war to steal property and humanitarian aid, which made people less safe.

Warning to Criminals

The Interior Ministry told people who didn't want to give up that they would face strong legal action. They stressed that public safety and citizens' rights would always be protected.

Local sources say that in the last few months, armed gangs backed by Israel have appeared. Some of these gangs have been stealing aid and private property, while others, like the Yasser Abu Shabab group, have reportedly acted against the resistance with Israeli protection.

The fighting happened after the ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on Friday afternoon. This allowed more than half a million people who had to leave their homes to go back to Gaza City and the northern parts of the Strip.
