CNN will broadcast a week of coverage dedicated to the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, including documentaries, live debate, interviews and regular news updates. Top presenters Richard Quest, Becky Anderson and Charles Hodson will be reporting live on location as the week’s events develop.
Coverage includes a special two-hour network event titled “Europe’s identity crisis” which culminates in a ‘CNN Connects’ global forum before a live audience. A prestigious panel of newsmakers will brainstorm and debate how European nations can effectively embrace different faiths and cultures.
CNN anchor Becky Anderson hosts the one-hour special, which features guests including Ali Babacan, Minister of State for the Economy of Turkey and Chief Negotiator for European Union accession talks, and Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, Brussels.
The program will address numerous questions such as: European economies need migrant labour but has immigration touched off a clash of cultures? Why are immigrants angry, and are Europeans at odds with the very people the continent needs to sustain its viability and future prosperity? ‘CNN Connects’ airs at 2200 GMT on Thursday 26 January.
Supporting ‘CNN Connects’ is an hour-long documentary hosted by CNN Correspondent Karl Penhaul. In “Europe’s Identity Crisis”, Penhaul travels across the continent visiting France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain, examining life through an immigrant’s eyes and investigating how nations have reacted to the increasing tide of migrant workers. The special can be seen at 2100 GMT on Thursday 26 January.
CNN presenters Richard Quest, Becky Anderson and Charles Hodson will report live from Davos with news updates, reaction and interviews throughout the week. And a special half-hour round-up, “This Week at Davos”, airs at 1430 GMT and 1830 GMT on Saturday 28 January.
Rena Golden, Senior Vice President of CNN International, said: “Some of the most powerful political and business leaders in the world will be at Davos. That’s our audience, so of course CNN will be there. We’ll debate the important issues and find out what the world’s leaders intend to do about them. Their agenda intersects with the issues we examine daily.”
