ALBAWABA - The US Ivy League School, Columbia University, announced canceling the main graduation ceremony that was set to take place next week due to the overwhelming wave of protests in support of the people of Gaza.
According to reports, the school administration said it will "forego the university-wide ceremony that is scheduled for May 15" and hold a series of smaller events instead.
Mass protests have taken the Ivy League Schools, where students demanded divesting from occupation-related businesses and taking a stance against the ongoing slaughter of the people of Gaza since October 7, 2023.
Calls for students from universities all over the country grew for them to take to the streets to demand their universities to divest from companies that sell weapons to Israel and form them to condemn the ongoing onslaught in the enclave.
Students across Harvard, MIT, and UCLA in addition to many other schools have answered these calls and started demanding action from their administrations.
Earlier this week, NYPD announced arresting dozens of protestors at Columbia University and the dispersal of the weeks-long protest, where calls for divesting ties with Israel were made.
Late Tuesday, New York Police Department (NYPD) officers entered a Columbia University building occupied by pro-Palestinian protesters, with reports of mass arrests across campus.
