More than 180 physicians, nurses, and midwives from SEHA facilities and private hospitals across the UAE will learn about the innovations in patient care during a two-day conference entitled Updates in Gynaecology and Risk Management Assessment that begins today at the Royal Meridian Hotel in Abu Dhabi (UAE). The event is being hosted by Corniche Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine.
The conference will focus on risk management, urogynaecology, and reproductive endocrinology and infertility and will feature a world-renowned risk management expert Margaret Garrett, B.S.N., JD, Law Senior Counsel, Director of Risk Management, from the Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine (USA). The presentation will enhance current knowledge on the systematic process implemented in hospitals to ensure that the most crucial goal of patient safety is maintained. Risk identification, loss and prevention will be discussed with the purpose to prevent or eliminate adverse events.
"This conference is part of Corniche Hospital’s commitment to promote quality continuing medical education (CME),” says Judy Lee, M.D., chief medical officer of Corniche Hospital. “By inviting international experts in the field of gynaecology to this conference, we continue to provide the latest and up-to date information to our clinicians.  We also felt that management of risk is part of the fundamental structure to the provision of care, whether it is on an individual level or an organizational level.  Therefore, we have also brought the senior legal counsel from Johns Hopkins Medicine to provide her insights on this crucial topic”.
The conference will consist of a series of lectures and workshops to update clinicians on the latest in laparoscopy, perineal reconstruction, prolapse repair and grafts, fertility drugs and cancer, ovarian hyperstimulation, and risk management.
In addition to Margaret Garrett, other invited speakers include experts from Johns Hopkins Medicine (USA), The University of Athens (Greece), Tubingen University Women’s Hospital (Germany), and University of British Columbia (Canada).

Corniche Hospital, under the management of Johns Hopkins Medicine International, is owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
