On ‘Nashwa’ this week is a candid discussion about the conflicts between women and their mothers-in-law and the reasons why a tense relationship is generated between them in most cases. Nashwa Al Ruwaini sits down with a host of women from both sides of the spectrum, speaking of their positive or negative relationships with their mothers-in-law.
‘Nashwa’ is aired on Dubai TV every Monday at 22:30 and repeated every Saturday at 18:00.
A professor who was encouraged by her mother-in-law in her scientific ambition and success in work tells of the positive side of having a ‘second mother.’ Another woman was able to form a friendship with her mother-in-law, to the extent that they shared secrets her son himself did not know about.
On the negative side of the spectrum is a woman who was deprived by her mother-in-law from attending her father's funeral, and was divorced because of her. Another woman was threatened by her mother-in-law continuously that her son would marry another woman, even though he had no desire to do that.
The show also highlights an interesting experience in which the husband kept his wife separated from his mother, seeing each other only two days a year: Eid El-Adha and Eid El-Fitr. Special guest Dr. Seliman El-Sanea, a social and legal consultant, explains the traditional conflict phenomenon between women and their mothers-in-law, especially in the Gulf area.
The show concludes with the International Self-Acceptance Association, who refuse racist criticism and sarcasm of any person who is different in length or weight or colour.
