Continued Growth in GCC’s Healthcare Sector Includes Health IT Investment

HIMSS MiddleEast09 comes to the Gulf Region in May to offer insight and information on health information technology

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) will hold its inaugural conference in the Middle East on 5-7 May 2009 in Manama, Bahrain. The three-day conference expects to attract professionals from the six-country GCC region, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, India, among others. It will focus on healthcare IT and insurance trends and adoption in the Gulf Region and healthcare IT and management excellence.

Healthcare trends in the region indicate current and ongoing growth with the Gulf Cooperation Council’s healthcare market emerging as one of its fastest-growing sectors. Direct health spending in the GCC will rise by 300 percent to US$60bn in 2025 compared with US$15bn in 2008, according to Viktor Hediger, Middle East healthcare leader at US management consultants, McKinsey & Company.
