Crystallized™ young designers award  shortlists finalists

Final designs will be showcased and the winner announced at

The Bride Show Dubai

Ten amateur designers and twelve Middle Eastern fashion students have been short-listed to win the CRYSTALLIZED™ Young Designers Award, the region’s foremost fashion competition for wedding dress designers, presented by The Bride Show Dubai.

Now a decade old, the CRYSTALLIZED™ Young Designers Award annually pushes contestants to their artistic limits, with great rewards for the winner, including an internship at a prominent fashion house.

The competition is the dramatic conclusion of The Bride Show Dubai, which takes place from 8-11 April 2009 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.

This year’s theme, Gypsy Rose, will act as the cornerstone in the creative processes of design and production, giving the finalists a source of inspiration and providing a starting point for their imaginative wedding dress creations to emerge.

On the final day of The Bride Show Dubai, the must-attend bridal and fashion event for women in the UAE, the designs from both the amateur and student categories will be presented on the catwalk by professional models.  A panel of leading fashion industry judges will evaluate each wedding dress before the winners are announced amidst rigorous applause and flashing cameras.

The amateur contestants hail from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and are a diverse group, representing countries from Sudan to South Korea.  The student finalists have been short-listed from three different fashion schools: Preston University Ajman, the Centre for Executive Education based in Dubai Knowledge Village, and Millennium Institute of Technology & Management in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In 2008, the Innovation Award winner, which is chosen from all 22 finalists across both categories, was Dubai resident Joseph Lalongisip, whose intricately made wedding dress featured more than 1,000 Swarovski crystals and included a chiffon parasol as a modern day veil.

Upon being recognized for his award, Joseph said, “This is overwhelming, I still can’t believe it. I came to Dubai to pursue my dream, and winning here at The Bride Show Dubai is my big chance to become a fashion designer.”

Daphne Cota, Exhibition Manager for The Bride Show, said, “Every year, the CRYSTALLIZED™ Young Designers Award receives enthusiastic entries from incredibly talented individuals, and our chosen finalists this year are no exception.”

“The Bride Show Dubai is a great place for our finalists to catapult their careers into the fashion world as their designs are proudly modelled, illuminating their innovative take on the theme and use of CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements.”

The Bride Show Dubai is the largest wedding and fashion event in the UAE; the 2008 exhibition welcomed more than 30,000 visitors.  This year more than 200 wedding industry experts and suppliers from around the world will come together under one roof in a showcase of international design excellence and consummate style.

Women’s Healthcare and Bride Home, running alongside The Bride Show Dubai, broaden the appeal for visitors as brides and young women take an active interest in their health and wellbeing, particularly in preparation for their wedding, and newlywed couples start to decorate their marital homes.

The 12th edition of The Bride Show Dubai will offer exclusive discounts and daily competitions available nowhere else in the region.  Lucky visitors can win grand prizes such as a diamond ring and a luxury honeymoon package with five-star accommodation in Seoul and Jeju Island in South Korea.
