Damas unveils legendary Swiss watchmaker, Jaquet Droz’s emotional treatise to time!
Presents an array of timepieces and pocket watches exploring the past, the zodiac and the mysterious power of minerals
Damas the world renowned jeweler and watch retailer presents legendary Swiss watch maker Jaquet Droz’s array of grand time temptations launched during Baselworld 2009. Designed around the concept that a watch is essentially an emotional product in which time, technology beauty and imagination find aesthetic expression, this brand whose history goes back to 1738, fittingly titles its offerings as ‘Emotion.’ This array explores such diverse concepts as astrology, the past, the power of minerals and even present lifestyles, to unveil creations designed to stir you to sublime heights of emotion…
Tawhid Abdullah, Managing Director Damas Jewellery, said: “Jaquet Droz watches bring together emotions with aesthetics to offer true works of art that can be treasured by generations. Its models draw inspiration from its illustrious founder and are rich in tradition, superior in innovation and superlative in their choice of materials. They also inspire others in the field and we at Damas are indeed proud to bring this legendary name to the region.”
Date Astrale Zodiaque Numerus Clausus 8: Gazing at this stunning piece can instantly transport you a million light years away in space! In it, glistening black opaline dials are sprinkled over with diamond brilliants representing planets with luminescent lines linking them to trace the constellations of the twelve zodiac signs. It has a self-winding double barrel movement and a hand-sewn black alligator leather strap and who knows, you may even discover your destiny by simply gazing at its watch face…
Jaquet Droz’s suave new pocket watch, La Montre de Poche Hommage Geneve 1784 pays homage to its late founder Pierre Jaquet Droz’s genius and creative spirit. Echoing the iconic piece la Grande Seconde Émail manufactured in 1785, which was redone as a wristwatch and has become the flagship model for the brand this model, produced in a ‘numerus clausus’ of 88, and engraved with individual numbers, has a manual movement and a 40 hour power reserve. It features an 18-karat red gold case with a hinged bow and an ivory enamel dial, crafted in the painstaking ‘grand feu’ method. What’s more, you can even wear it on a matching red gold chain!
Continuing to make headlines it’s little wonder that Jaquet Droz’s iconic Grand Seconde Ceramique watch features in an ongoing exhibition titled ‘Object Factory: The Art of Industrial Ceramics’, at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York, New York, held through September 13, 2009. Interestingly this watch is the sole representative of ceramic applications in horology. It has the traditional enamel dial and a black case manufactured from minute particles of zirconium powder, formed into a highly resilient case through a state-of-the-art molding process.
Its other model on offer is the Jaquet Droz Grande Heure watch, one of the most distinctively elegant timepieces.  Its name alludes to its single blued steel hour hand, which completes a revolution around the clean, uncluttered and clear face of its dial once every 24 hours with quarter hour segments in between each hour for more accurate minutes reading.
Jaquet Droz’s Quantieme Perpetual Meteorite Numerus Clausus 8 showcases a meteorite dial with blued steel hands on a fine 18k white gold case. Its serpentine hands are reserved for the calendar functions – months, days and date – with a double-retrograde indication of the day and date while the Lancine type hands are dedicated to the time functions – central hour and minute indication and large second subdial at 6 o’ clock and a ‘guilloche’ silvered sub-dial in a remarkable dedication to the mystic power of minerals.
Jaquet Droz’s amazing horological wonders will soon be available at Damas Les Exclusives Boutiques located in Saks Fifth Avenue, BurJuman, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Mall, Emirates Towers, Mall of the Emirates and Wafi City.
