ALBAWABA- In Yemen, tragedy struck late Sunday as at least four soldiers lost their lives, and others were injured in a devastating attack. Local and tribal sources in the region have confirmed this unfortunate incident.

The victims were part of the General Security Forces and the Southern Transitional Council.

The attack unfolded near the Mudia district, situated to the east of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan Governorate. It involved the detonation of an explosive device that specifically targeted two military vehicles. These soldiers faced a relentless assault.

The assault itself consisted of two separate attacks, characterized by both gunfire and explosive devices. These attacks took place in the vicinity of Wadi Al-Rifd, close to Wadi Awmaran, situated to the east of the Mudia district.

As tensions escalated, a fierce clash ensued. The attackers, armed with medium-caliber weapons, confronted the joint security forces.

Eventually, the assailants retreated to positions located in the highlands of Wadi Awmaran, moving toward areas adjacent to the Jashan district and the neighboring Al-Bayda Governorate.

Regarding responsibility for this tragic event, no group has officially claimed it, according to Al-Masdar news.

However, there are strong indications pointing towards the involvement of Al-Qaeda elements.

This assumption arises due to the ongoing security campaign in the area and the noticeable decline in the organization's activities in Wadi Awmaran. This region had served as the primary stronghold for the group since the mid-1990s.
