Death toll in Los Angeles fires rises to 24

ALBAWABA - Firefighters in Los Angeles are battling the clock to combat the fires that have been spreading for the past few days. Officials announced that the death toll in the fires has jumped to 24 people.

According to a CNN report, an amputee and his child who suffers from cerebral palsy were among the people killed by the rapidly spreading fires in California. The American website revealed that the Los Angeles father was found beside his son. 

It further noted that one of the people killed had earlier rejected to evacuate and told his relatives about his decision. 

An old woman, aged 85, also died after refusing to evacuate and leave her pets behind in the Palisades area. In addition, an Australian ex-child star was also among the victims.

CNN further noted that a Malibu resident along with a surfer also passed away in the Los Angeles Fires which burnt 40,300 acres and destroyed 12,000 buildings, according to Cal Fire. 

Yesterday, The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner detailed that five bodies were found in the Palisades Fire zone, meanwhile, 11 were in the Eaton Fire zone.

At least 150,000 people were evacuated from California as wildfires raged across various locations burning buildings and celebrity houses that cost millions of dollars.

A team of firefighters from Mexico were dispatched to California state on Jan. 12 to assist in combating the wildfires in Los Angeles. In addition, Canada also announced sending 60 firefighters to help.

Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also offered assistance to the US, he said: "Today, I instructed Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs and our diplomats to prepare for the possible participation of our rescuers in combating the wildfires in California."
