Ryan Divakar, an Indian national, scooped an AED 100,000 shopping spree at Deira City Centre’s DSF promotion in a result that was entirely down to the romantic interest in his life.
Ryan’s fiancée, Francesca Noronha, had entered the competition on his behalf, after buying him pair of sunglasses as a special gift. The huge win for Ryan came just two months after he relocated to Dubai. The win was a complete surprise for the happy couple.
“I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that the gift of these sunglasses from my fiancé was going to lead to this amazing shopping spree,” said Ryan, speaking yesterday. “This is without doubt the second best thing that has happened to me after coming to Dubai - the first obviously being with my future wife now,” he said.
For Francesca, the chance buy has led her to believe that their romance is linked to good fortune. “I just happened to see this lovely pair of sunglasses and thought they would make the perfect gift for my fiancé, as there is so much sunshine here in Dubai,” she revealed. “I entered the draw almost as an afterthought, but the win has made we realise that we are truly lucky in love!” she added.
Ryan has given his fiancée half of his winnings as a generous acknowledgment of the part she played in their good fortune. In addition to this, he is also planning on treating her to a surprise gift. “I will be buying her something special from my share of the prize as a way of saying thank you,” he said. “You never know, perhaps it will be my turn to win something on behalf of Francesca,” he laughed.
The AED 100,000 shopping voucher draw is being held each week over the month-long festival, which comes to an end on Sunday, February 15 - the day after Valentine’s Day. Customers shopping for a minimum of AED 300 are entitled to participate by filling in raffle coupons at the shopping mall’s designated customer service counters.
