Department of Municipalities and Agriculture announced today (Tuesday, October 31, 2006) the signing of a 10-year contract with Injazat Data Systems, the region’s leading Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company, under which Injazat will provide IT managed services and assume full responsibility for the Municipality’s IT services and operations.

The contract was signed by H.E. Dr. Juaan Salem Al Daheri, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Agriculture in his office at Abu Dhabi Municipality Department, and Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Lari, CEO, Injazat Data Systems.

Established in the 1st Quarter of 2005, Injazat Data Systems is an Abu Dhabi-based joint venture between Mubadala Development Company and Electronic Data Systems (EDS). This deal will be another opportunity for Injazat Data Systems to create new jobs for UAE Nationals in line with its vision of developing UAE National IT professionals.

Under the terms of the contract, Injazat will provide fully integrated IT services to the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture, including infrastructure management, application management, project management and delivery, extensive network support throughout Abu Dhabi, in addition to developing and supporting Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.
This deal follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties in March this year which marked the start of this strategic partnership. Since then, joint teams from the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture and Injazat have been collaborating to shape the service delivery model and lay the groundwork for transferring over 120 of the Department’s IT staff to Injazat.

Commenting on the contract, Dr. Juaan Salem Al Daheri, said, “The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Agriculture is keen on leveraging the private sector’s experience to develop its operations and enhance its services delivered to the public. The Department has made rapid strides of progress towards its goal of implementing a total e-government framework that started to emerge in several sectors within the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture achieving greater efficiency and productivity and relieving the Department from routine overheads.”

“As a major public Department, it is important that we support and accelerate the development and unprecedented economic growth taking place in Abu Dhabi, by providing prompt and efficient services. Giving Injazat Data Systems the responsibility of managing our IT services and operations will enable us to benefit from innovative solutions and leverage the considerable expertise of the company’s pool of professionals. This in turn will help us provide speedy and improved government services to the public and further reinforce Abu Dhabi’s development and progress,” he added.

Welcoming the deal, Ibrahim Mohamed Lari, said, “Injazat is committed to provide Department of Municipalities and Agriculture with quality IT managed services based on international standards. We set clear goals and objectives for our services, that will help the Department save costs, ensure higher flexibility, streamline its business operations and speed up public transactions.”

“This agreement is in line with our vision of supporting our clients to realise improved value and benefit from existing and future investments in their IT systems and infrastructure,” Lari added.

Injazat Data Systems had signed contracts worth over AED 700 million in its first year of operation, establishing a leading position in the regional IT outsourcing industry.
