Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) today revealed a host of special activities, to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan. The activities focus on supporting charitable causes for the less fortunate in society, promoting conservation issues, educational programmes, Islamic lectures and Iftar celebrations.
Amal Koshak, Deputy Manager, Demand Management at DEWA commented, “DEWA is a socially responsible organisation and we wanted to support the community that we serve, through a succession of events aimed at religious education, conservation, tolerance and benevolence.”
In coordination with Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) some two thousand students will be invited to the Rashid Auditorium in Rashid Hospital. They will listen to Islamic lectures on the true meaning of Ramadan, and asked to follow Islam’s teachings regarding conservation.
DEWA have also designed a brochure which will be distributed to both employees and customers, highlighting advice on fasting and conservation issues from an Islamic perspective. The brochures will also summarise the activities taking place throughout Ramadan.
In Al Twar area, in coordination with DEWA, the DTCM has erected a special children’s Ramadan Tent with large screen TVs and DVD players. A corner of the tent will be reserved to educate children about Zamzam water and there will also be a gardening corner and a detective corner for conservation awareness.
In association with the Human Appeal International (HAI), a Non-Governmental charitable organisation, DEWA hope to raise HAI’s profile, to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development programmes. They also look to improve the quality of life for underprivileged communities through education, health and social development.
“Ramadan is a time for reflection, to think about those less fortunate than ourselves. HAI’s campaign to raise awareness for the plight of thousands of innocent civilians in Lebanon and Palestine and respond to the cries for help, deserves our full support,” added Koshak.
