DHL partners with Connecting Cultures on Desert Crossing Expedition

DHL, the global market leader of the international express and logistics Industry, today announced its title sponsorship of the 2007 Connecting Cultures Desert Expedition.

Both the National Commission for UNESCO/Ministry of Education and the Jordan Higher Council for Youth are in support of this educational initiative which takes place in the Al Sharqiya desert in north eastern Oman. A team of approximately 16 young people from Jordan, Oman, KSA and the UK as well as Fiji and Pakistan will participate to cross 100 km of the desert in eight days, using camels for support.

Sponsoring this amazing adventure has given us another opportunity to play an important role in promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding, following the successful 2005 expedition.” said Rhys Williams, Country Manager, DHL Jordan.

Support of the expedition, which takes place in February 2007, follows DHL’s successful involvement as partner of the 2005 Connecting Cultures Arctic expedition, which brought together 10 boys from Saudi Arabia and Britain, to spend two weeks on the remote Arctic island of Svalbard, some 500 miles from the North Pole on a challenging wilderness venture.

“Connecting Cultures has proved to be a great tool for promoting intercultural dialogue through bringing young people from the Muslim and western world face to face, leading to greater understanding and respect,” said Mark Evans, founder of Connecting Cultures.

Therefore we wish the boys the best of luck in their journey through the desert hoping they will gain an amazing life experience, and look forward to hearing about their adventures when they return,” added Williams.

DHL’s support of the Connecting Cultures initiative aims to boost cultural awareness, and promote mutual and environmental understanding between the young people of the Middle East, Great Britain and the other participating nations.
