The UAE arm of DHL, the region’s leading logistics and express operator, today announced an exclusive tie-up with Apacer, a global leading manufacturer in memory module and digital storage devices.
Under the terms of the agreement, DHL UAE will develop a customised end-to-end supply chain solution for Apacer. The Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) subsidiary will effectively open the door to a stream of high-tech components into the UAE in the first instance and from there to the rest of the Middle East.
Through its Direct Express Inventory service, DHL will ensure secure storage and effective dispatch of Apacer’s products to meet the manufacturer’s customers demands. David Wild, General Manager for DHL UAE, said: “This contract win with one of the biggest niche manufacturers in the world is a triumph for the unique capabilities of DHL’s Direct Express Inventory service, which has been providing support to various businesses across the region for the past two years.
“This premium service allows clients to concentrate on their core competencies, which for Apacer means manufacturing, while DHL provides the supply chain solution that ensures their logistic requirements are achieved effectively. The service effectively dispenses with the need for manufacturers to set up an independent operation but enables them to meet the needs of remote customers.”
Direct Express Inventory is one of DHL’s key service offerings in the UAE and is responsible for an increasing proportion of the business. Customers realise all the advantages of being freed to focus on their operational expertise confident while DHL can handle all the rest. By using Direct Express Inventory, Apacer can focus on making the drives and DHL can do all the rest in terms of supplying clients in the UAE. The company avoids all the hassles involved in setting up business in the UAE but is still able to tap the market.
The partnership will see DHL assume full responsibility for ensuring that UAE orders for Apacer’s goods manufactured in Taiwan are delivered on time. Apacer’s own sales people will secure the orders in the UAE before passing on the details to DHL that warehouses the stock and keeps its inventory. DHL UAE will then ensure that the orders reach Apacer’s customers on time. The mode of the transportation will be decided based on customer specification.
Dirk van Doorn, DHL UAE’s Logistics Manager, said: “Our relationship with Apacer through DHL Taiwan, part of our global network, played a crucial role in securing this contract. We have full responsibility for all aspects of the logistics and will oversee movements of the product from Taiwan to our own warehouses in Dubai and onward to the client.
“Our high quality customer service level and competitive pricing were key to winning this contract. Our ability to offer high turnaround from order placement to dispatch, and excellent inbound transit time on air freight were also contributory factors.”
“We can offer end-to-end logistics solutions through our global network and of course we have the warehousing. Apacer soon recognised the competitive advantages to be gained from a partnership with DHL and we are happy to accommodate their requirements.”
