Diamonds once again made its mark at the week’s celebration of the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Chopard has created the Red Carpet Collection to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of its special relationship with the world’s most famous film event. The collection is composed of 60 unique Haute Joaillerie creations with stars from all over the globe showcasing the most dazzling diamond fashion statements. Ten of these superb adornments have inspired the legendary Italian fashion designer, Valentino, to create a personalised version of them through a range of splendid gowns.
On the opening night of the festival, celebrities were wearing stunning diamond jewellery. Toni Colette, Jury Member and an award winning actress, selected Chopard’s multi-cut diamond chandelier earrings (12 carats) paired with an oval-cut diamond bracelet (19 carats) and a pink and white diamond bracelet (12 carats). Sarah Polley, Jury Member and multi-talented actress and director, chose to accent her evening look with Chopard’s spinnel and diamond mesh earrings set in yellow gold totaling 38 carats. Jury Member Maggie Cheung wore multiple diamond bracelets of different sizes and shapes from Chopard. Maria de Medeiros, Jury Member, has chosen to wear Chopard’s fancy cut and fancy colored diamond pendant necklace (46 carats) for the first night.
“There are two basic prerequisites for a successful appearance on the red carpet: a magnificent dress and of course splendid jewellery. The opening evening of the Cannes Film Festival is always one of the year’s most glamorous events. It is always a pleasure to return to Cannes, and this year more than ever, thanks to the opening dinner we have organised at the close of the ceremony and thanks to this cooperation with one of the world’s finest jewellers,” said Mr Valentino, who collaborated with Chopard co-president Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele on the magnificent project.
Among the 10 models to glide up the famous steps is the radiant mother-to-be Eva Herzigova, for whom Mr Valentino has designed a pale rose silk Empire style gown highlighting her delightful expectant mother’s figure and based around the collection’s necklace. As Chopard’s ambassadress, Eva reaffirmed Chopard’s image, walking the red carpet in a splendid necklace set in pink gold with pink sapphires (10 carats), krunzites (349 carats), diamonds (5 carats) and 47 purple pearls. Chopard’s Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele ascended the stairs with Valentino and ten beautiful actresses wearing a stunning emerald cut diamond choker.
“I have always loved fashion and of course Haute Couture by Valentino, which I have often worn for grand occasions. Moreover, I know him personally and hold his remarkable work in great esteem. That’s why I naturally thought of him when I had the idea of the Red Carpet collection. He was enthused by the idea that the jewellery should be the source of inspiration for the clothing, and not the other way around. He therefore suggested 10 models that will embellish stars in a spectacular way on the red carpet this year. I am delighted and honoured by this cooperation and by the fact that he agreed to my proposal,” said Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele.
On the red carpet, Elizabeth Hurley selected Chopard’s rose-cut diamond earrings (47 carats) and a marquise-cut diamond cuff. Oscar-nominated actress Minnie Driver climbed the stairs of the Palais in Chopard’s blue sapphire chandelier earrings set in brown pave diamonds totaling 62 carats paired with exquisite diamond bracelets.
