DIFC Courts Hosts Educational Event for Legal Practitioners

The DIFC Courts, the Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) landmark independent, common-law judicial system, has announced it is to hold a lecture entitled “Assessment of Costs”, as part of a series of lectures aimed at helping the legal community gain a deeper understanding of DIFC Courts’ rules, capabilities and operations.

The second lecture in the series, taking place at the DIFC Centre of Excellence on Wednesday 25th March, will feature a talk by Judge Peter Hurst, a Senior Costs Judge from the Royal Courts of Justice in the UK, about international best practices in the handling of costs assessments by practitioners, as well as insights by the Chief Justice Sir Anthony Evans about assessment of costs in the DIFC Courts. The lectures are designed specifically for legal professionals with the intention of providing knowledge about handling litigation through the DIFC Courts, as well as sharing international best practices.

The lecture will include practical insights by, and an open forum with, Chief Justice Sir Anthony Evans, H.E. Justice Ali Al Madhani and H.E. Justice Omar Al Muhairi.  It will be followed by a lunch.

Mark Beer, Registrar at DIFC Courts said:  “As part of our commitment to providing efficient, accessible and fair dispute resolution, the DIFC Courts is focused on developing the understanding of court processes and procedures among legal practitioners in the region.  The DIFC Courts’ lecture series offers a comprehensive guide to dealing with cases at the Courts.  We look forward to continuing our educational initiatives in the future to benefit the legal community, and to ensure the highest international standards of legal procedure that are expected by the global institutions operating within the DIFC.”
